  45. This option lets you configure the graphics adapter to power-up
  46. in a state that best suits your system. You will be able to specify the
  47. following:
  48.   
  49.         ■  Type of monitor to be connected to the adapter
  50.         ■  Video mode at power-up
  51.         ■  16-Bit or 8-Bit ROM operations
  52.         ■  Port address and interrupt vector IRQ for the mouse
  53.         ■  16-Bit or 8-Bit I/O bus operations
  54.   
  55. The adapter power-up sequence will read the above settings from
  56. the non-volatile EEPROM and configure adapter output/operations
  57. accordingly.

  59. Once saved, settings will remain unchanged until altered.

  63. With this option you can change the adapter to display a different video
  64. mode without affecting the Power-up mode setting stored in EEPROM.

  66. The video mode selected using this option will be lost when the system
  67. is powered down or when a new mode is selected.

  90. The Monochrome test option will test VGA monochrome attributes
  91. and monochrome graphics modes.

  119. the type of computer into which the adapter is being
  120. installed,  and  whether the  mouse port is being
  121. configured at the Primary or Secondary Address.

  129. Some software may support other values. Not all 
  130. software  will operate correctly if the default 
  131. values are not chosen.

  135. This option is designed to optimize the performance of the graphics
  136. adapter by selecting a suitable Bus I/O mode for your system.

  140. Selecting this option will enable automatic mode selection.
  141.    
  142. The graphics adapter will check the CPU and set Bus I/O to:
  143.    
  144.         ■  8 bits on 80286 processor systems, and
  145.         ■  16 bits on 80386 or higher processor systems.

  147. This option may cause some computer systems to lock up.  To correct
  148. the problem, power down the system, reboot and re-configure
  149. Bus I/O mode to 8 bits.

  153. Your bus mouse will be tested if you select this option.

  155. You will be able to check for proper mouse movement by moving
  156. the mouse and watching the cursor on the screen.

  241. mode only if you have a problem with the 720x348 graphics mode.

  244. of three text colors:

  255. of this option will put your Graphics Adapter into a 80x43 line
  256. Text mode or 80x50 mode, respectively.

  258. By choosing this option you will at best double the number of text
  259. lines displayed on your monitor.

  265. This menu allows the user to specify a directory, from which
  266. the installations will be made.

  268. The INSTALL program expects all auxiliary files to be in
  269. their proper directories as the Distribution diskettes.

  271. If you are running INSTALL from a Utilities directory, such
  272. as "C:\COMBUTIL," you will have to enter a path name to the
  273. source directory, that contains files the INSTALL program
  274. may require at any time.
  275.    
  276. For example, to install AutoCAD drivers from the Distribution
  277. diskette in drive A, enter 'A:\ACAD' for the source directory.
  278. NOTE: Entering 'A:\' will also be acceptable.

  282. This option sets your Graphics Adapter for a 132x25 text mode.
  283. 132 columns and 25 rows of text can now be displayed.

  285. This mode is functional with all monitors.

  288.       written to support 132 columns on the screen. Check your
  289.       software users manual or call your dealer to confirm that
  290.       the application will run in this mode.

  297. for the chosen monochrome mode; you have three options :

  307. This option will copy CRYSTAL(R) fonts to your disk to be used by
  308. a driver that supports grayscale screen fonts.
  309. Grayscale drivers are supplied for applications such as Windows.

  311. CRYSTAL Fonts(R) are WYSIWYG high resolution near-300 dpi screen fonts
  312. What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get. These fonts are designed to match the
  313. resolution of laser printer outputs, for displaying on the screen.

  320. wish to install (copy) the adapter interface.  Accept the name
  321. suggested or enter your own drive:\directory name.

  329. high-resolution modes supported by ATI's graphics adapters.

  346. This option is used to configure the mouse port for your computer
  347. environment. You have the choice of selecting either the Primary
  348. Address, Secondary Address or Disabled.

  350. The factory default setting for the mouse port is Disabled. To 
  351. activate the mouse port, select the Primary Address option.
  352. Secondary address is used only if there is an address conflict
  353. at 23Ch - 23Fh (some serial cards may use this address).
  354.    
  355. If your system has cards at both port addresses 23Ch - 23Fh and
  356. 238h - 23Bh, the mouse port must then be disabled.
  357.    
  358. Upon selecting the mouse port address, you will be prompted to
  359. define the IRQ (interrupt request) level to be used by the mouse.

  370. 'Custom' option. This option will allow you to customize the
  371. CRT parameters to your specific monitor.

  373. By referring to the documentation supplied with your monitor
  374. you should then have a good idea of the frequencies which your
  375. monitor can support, and the interlacing scheme it uses; this 
  376. information will help you to better select one of the available 
  377. customization options.

  379. The highlighted monitor selection will be written to EEPROM
  380. only if you choose to save it.

  387. If your monitor is not shown in this list, refer to the documentation
  388. supplied with your monitor. Your monitor manufacturer should supply
  389. technical specifications, pertaining to monitor's characteristics;
  390. there are three specifications which are of most importance in
  391. monitor selection:
  392.   
  393.         - Interlaced (i.) or Non-Interlaced (n.i.)
  394.         - Vertical sync frequency (V.frq)
  395.         - Resolution (Res) 
  396.    
  397. Based on these figures, select the monitor from the list which
  398. is most compatible.
  399.   
  400. For example, if you didn't find the exact brand and make of your
  401. monitor in the list, but you know that your monitor is rated at 60Hz
  402. Vertical Frequency (V.frq), can display 1024x768 resolution, and is
  403. Non-Interlaced (n.i.), then you would select the following option:
  404.   
  405.                 ' Generic n.i. 60Hz 1024x768 '
  406.     
  407. The highlighted monitor selection will then be written to EEPROM
  408. only if you choose to save it.

  412. This option sets your Graphics Adapter for a 132x44 text mode.
  413. 132 columns and 44 rows of text can now be displayed.

  553. Adapter.

  555. When the card is installed in an 8 bit slot, 8 bit operation will
  556. automatically be selected; and when installed in a 16 bit slot,
  557. the video RAM will always use a 16 bit RAM access, but the ROM 
  558. (which contains the video BIOS) may be accessed with an 8 or
  559. 16 bit datapath.

  566. select the 16 bit option for ROM operation.

  568. The INSTALL program will perform a test for 16 bit operation 
  569. and display a message if 16 bit operation can not be attained. 
  570. If your system does not support 16 bit ROM access, this does 
  571. not indicate a problem with your Graphics Adapter or your 
  572. system - it simply means that the system manufacturer has 
  573. chosen not to implement the IBM standard for ROM address timing
  574. in the interest of higher performance in other areas.

  576. If this is the case, select the 8 bit option and press <Enter>.

  580. This option enables the user to select the Power-up Video mode of
  581. the Graphics Adapter - i.e. the mode that the adapter will be set
  582. to after the computer is powered up or reset.

  584. The video mode setup information will be saved in the on-board 
  585. EEPROM, thus retaining the user-selected power-up mode even after
  586. the power is turned off.

  588. Your Graphics Adapter can be set to wake up in one of the following
  589. text modes :

  621. another menu will appear, asking for the choice of foreground color.

  623. As well, a dual adapter configuration may be selected, if needed.

  633. ATI Technologies Inc. recommends using this mode as a default only 
  634. if the majority of your software is CGA self-booting software.

  648. will be required to choose a color (either white, green or amber).
  649.    
  650. Almost all Hercules Graphics programs use this resolution.

  657. Hercules text mode.

  659. However, only a small number of programs such as PrintMaster or 
  660. some Oriental word processing programs use this resolution.

  662. Do not use this mode unless the 720x350 Hercules mode fails to run
  663. your Hercules compatible programs.
  664.    
  665. Press <Enter> to select the 640x400 mode.

  669. You now have the choice of choosing either the COLOR or MONO
  670. option; if you have a Color monitor, you can :
  671.    
  672.         1. select the COLOR option, and then choose one of
  673.            the available color resolutions, or
  674.         2. select the MONO option, and then choose one of 3
  675.            possible foreground colors.

  677. If you possess a Monochrome monitor, you may select the MONO
  678. option, resulting in a default color. Otherwise, you may
  679. select the COLOR option, which will interpret the colors as
  680. shades of gray.

  711. system, you can choose either the COLOR or MONO option; if you
  712. have a Color monitor, you can :

  714.         1. select the COLOR option, and then choose one of
  715.            the available color resolutions, or
  716.         2. select the MONO option, and then choose one of 3
  717.            possible foreground colors.
  718.        
  719. If you possess a Monochrome monitor, you may select the MONO 
  720. option, resulting in a default color. Otherwise, you may 
  721. select the COLOR option, which will interpret the colors as
  722. shades of gray.
  723.    
  724. If you would like to set your video card for dual adapter 
  725. configuration, then select the DUAL ADAPTER option.

  731. You now need to decide which video card you wish to serve
  732. as the Primary adapter.
  733.    
  734. Primary adapter is the start-up video adapter that becomes
  735. active upon power-up or system reset.

  737. Having selected your Primary adapter, you will be asked to
  738. make a choice for your Secondary adapter in the menu that
  739. follows.
